Last month I found a message in my Notes app that I never sent. March, four paragraphs, addressed to someone I had already decided not to have the conversation with. It was calm. It was fair. I read it twice and got that specific sinking feeling of still agreeing with every word.
I did not send it. The point is that it surfaced at all, and that is the shape of this month — which is why any October horoscope 2026 has to open with sky mechanics rather than a mood. The New Moon lands at 17°22′ Libra, 11:50 AM ET. Sun and Moon in the same degree of cardinal air is the standard signal for a fresh start in the territory of agreements, contracts and other people.
Except every lunation is administered by the planet ruling its sign, and Libra’s ruler is Venus — currently retrograde. So this New Moon hands you a beginning and routes the paperwork through a department re-reading last year’s files. Intentions set on the 10th about a partnership tend to arrive already attached to something older. Set one anyway, but write down what it responds to.
October 15: Pluto stations direct at 3°04′ Aquarius
Pluto has been retrograde since spring, so the demolition-and-rebuild it runs has been happening internally rather than out in the world. On the 15th it turns direct in early Aquarius and resumes its outward direction.
A planet that spends fifteen-odd years in a sign moves so slowly around a station that it holds the same degree for weeks, which makes it unusually loud for something so slow. Early Aquarius is the zone Pluto has worked since 2024, and whatever it has been dismantling in your chart stops idling mid-month.
October 23–25: the Sun changes sign, Mercury turns, Venus goes home the long way
Three days do most of the month’s work. October 23 the Sun enters Scorpio, leaving the sign that asks what did we agree to for the sign that asks what are we not saying. October 24 Mercury stations retrograde at 20°59′ Scorpio. October 25 Venus, still retrograde, reverses out of Scorpio back into Libra.
That last one is the move I would circle. Venus is in domicile in Libra, its strongest placement, so it gets stronger by sign at the exact moment it is travelling backwards. October 26: a Taurus Full Moon in a near-exact square to Pluto
The Full Moon arrives at 2°45′ Taurus, 12:12 AM ET, the same weekend US clocks go back. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, the one place it runs at full strength — steady, sensory, allergic to being rushed.
Then run the geometry. The Moon at 2°45′ Taurus and Pluto at 3°04′ Aquarius sit within twenty minutes of an exact square, and the Sun in early Scorpio opposes the Moon and squares Pluto too: a fixed T-square with Pluto at the apex, eleven days after its station, so Pluto is barely moving and carrying maximum weight. Fixed signs do not bend, so this produces a decision about what you are keeping rather than a compromise. Taurus asks what is actually yours, Scorpio asks what it cost, Pluto asks whether you would choose it again. Why two retrogrades at once is not just two retrogrades
I get asked this every time, usually phrased as “is it worse.” It is not worse, it is different. A Mercury retrograde alone is an information problem. Mercury governs transfer — messages, contracts, the moment a thought leaves your head and becomes something another person has. Retrograde, that transfer runs backwards: old conversations resurface, and the thing you said in July shows up in someone’s mouth in October, slightly altered.
A Venus retrograde alone is a valuation problem. Venus is less about romance than worth: the price you put on things, people, your own hours.
